News reaching us from Umuahia the capital of Abia State has it that a police officer has shot dead a 21year old boy in Afara Ukwu Umuahia.
The boy Chukwubike Onuoha according to an eye witness was said to have been in company of other youth from the community when the police Hilux van approached them with the head lamp on and beaming straight to their eyes, it was then that the deceased asked the police men to dim their light and an argument ensumed when the police man Identified as Sergeant Collins Akpugo shot him in front of his father’s house.
The women in the community staged a protest today condemning the brutal killing of an innocent young boy. Their leader Mrs. Ogbonna said that they were protesting the killing of a boy in front of his father’s house last night. She continued we have gone to the Government house to Lodge our Complain now we are heading to the police Command because the life of innocent people should not be wasted like that for nothing by law enforcement agents whose duty were to protect us. He was confirmed dead this morning at FMC umuahia.
We know Collins Akpugo, he is a police officer who lives in our community here, justice is only what we ask for.
The Youth on the other hand also staged a protest for the killing of one of them but expressed surprise and disheartening how police officers at Central Police station used teargas to dispersed them.
The Police Public Relation Officer in Abia State Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed the incident but stressed that the Commissioner of Police Mr. Okon Enen has ordered a full investigation on the matter as he has charged the homicide department to carry out investigation on what transpired.
Meanwhile He has sent a delegation to commiserate with the families and community.
